I was in rock and roll all my life and I am also aware that the Rolling Stones have called the best band of rock and roll. Do not get me wrong because I love Mick and the Stones, the Beatles were my biggest musical influence, but here's why I think Led Zeppelin is the best group of rock and roll of all time:
1. Best players
First John Bonham was the greatest rock and roll drummer ever to walk on the surface of this planet and is a qualified opinion from a former professional drummer. John plays the drums like no one else did, not known or ever will, and the fact is constantly demonstrated in the astounding breadth and depth of his recorded work. He had complete independence in all four limbs, he slammed his drums harder than anyone else, and he did it with speed and total precision, never once losing the battle. His beats were were innovative and creative, and John was never stuck in simple grooves. His fills were innovative, creative, complex and technically brilliant, he knew when to keep it relatively simple (ie Kashmir), but it was still in the stratosphere of drumming. And to top it all, John has created a giant drum sound which is unique. It inspired a host of imitators who were able to imitate the sound of his snare, but only with a simple backbeat.
Back when Led Zep was formed, could Jimmy Page got any drummer in the world to play with him, and he chose John. It is not a single drummer alive or dead who can begin to touch John's power, creativity, speed, precision and technicality. I heard that Jimmy still feels the same about John as I do.
Second, Jimmy Page has always been one of the best rock guitarists ever, from his early days as a session musician and the beginning of his fame among the public real Yardbirds. I think Jimmy is the brightest prolific of all great guitarists of rock and roll. I suspect that Jimmy would agree with me that Jimi Hendrix was the only true genius of the guitar because he came from another galaxy in terms of their sound and their use of feedback. But unfortunately, Jimi died and we never know how many more would have progressed. When I listen to Jimmy's solos with violin bow, I put on the same pedestal that Hendrix and wonder which galaxy they both came. As a songwriter, Jimmy used his superior ability to play lead guitar to create actual song structure. Led Zep riffs songs do not use one or two of Jimmy's incredibly powerful, complex and very sexy in every song, but there are four, five or more riffs in some songs.
Thirdly, John Paul Jones on bass, who achieved brilliance comparable to Paul McCartney. Just like McCartney, John could play beautiful "down (ie" melodic Ramble On "), he could as fast as it gets, but he also knew when to keep it simple and just hold down even if I do not think it can do without a complete sophistication. No one at all can touch those two on bass, and John also played keyboards in ever-bright -. piano, organ and synthesizer, and the complex ways in which wove his bass guitar playing technique, in and under the guitar Jimmy is nothing short of perfection itself.
And last, but not at all least, Robert Plant had an incredibly large sound field, emotionally and in terms of octaves. Just like Dylan was for his music, Robert's voice was full of music and does not alter the Led Zep singer who could have fit in. As a professional singer, I deleted the song from Robert, and technical and emotional level. Robert understood the concept of using her voice as the reader, creating fascinating sounds without lyrics. Jimmy and Robert wrote too. A lot of time I can not understand his lyrics and I felt it was the intention of Robert, because just like Mick Jagger, all he was interested at that time was that you get a sense of connection and energy in his music complex. But when you get the lyrics (such as Stairway to Heaven, to honor Janis Joplin), you will find a great poem. And on top of all this, Robert was the best "oooh Yeahs" in business!
2. Creative Songwriting
Almost no one has ever covered Led Zep songs very good reasons. Their song structure is based on their ability to play a far greater and there is nobody who can play what they played. I'm talking about songs that are not based on simple chords like all other rock and roll is. Jimmy and Robert based their songs on Jimmy's riffs and chords, her tone that so far, in itself is unique. I'm also talking about the length of the songs, constant and intense high, up to 11 minutes in length without resorting to too repetitive chorus. I know that the solo work of Robert Led Zep, after which he also uses unusual tone in his writing, but do not actually know this because I assume that Jimmy Page is erupting fountain of brilliant guitar work, most of the music creation is not voice-it was Jimmy. The Beatles certainly deserve abject worship for John Paul, and creative songwriting ability, no doubt.
Certainly Mick and Keith wrote a lot of classic rock songs, historic and memorable, but the nature of its relatively simple rock and roll structure and basic similarity to each other in the use of progressions "major and minor chords, the simple rock and roll and basic rhythms, and verse chorus / / bridge approach defines them as being less innovative when compared to Robert and Jimmy.
3. The amount of outstanding work
Here, they beat the Stones, because most of the albums the Stones' have "filler" songs that have not hit the same intense high that hit all the best. However, I would say that I do not think either Mick or Robert can not save anything short of a brilliant song. The Beatles actually exceed the amount Led Zep great albums that constitute a larger individually brilliant and innovative work that literally broke new musical ground of each song recorded. The Beatles were only the Beatles, and were creative rock and roll band ever, is the best singer and songwriter, never along their individual charm and charisma. But without denigrating their style beautiful, sensitive and original game, which is not registered heavy type of rock and roll that either the Stones or Led Zep played.
George, Paul and John were brilliant and creative guitarists, but because they improvise on stage, they were not really master guitarists. Ringo love and respect as a person and a very creative battery mastered the art of drum sounds. He has his own inimitable style Ringo for both, but not really a master drummer in the sense of being able to play with great speed and skill. I'm talking about nine albums of Led Zep songs filled with bright, high intensity - I do not know how many hours the idol of rock and roll is music. Not a weak track among all that work, and there is simply no question that always opened a new musical path. Their first album is still the best of all time (including cream), and Coda, their "swan song" is also perfect.
4. Stage presence
Led Zep was there when the term "rock and roll star" is still pending. I'm going to grant that the Stones at least deserve an honorable mention for best rock and roll band, but mainly because of their impressive touring record and Mick's stage presence superstar of his ability to put a great show every time appears. And he is still doing it at the age of 60 years, for goodness sake! My point is not that Led Zep necessarily had the best stage presence is that they are a true rock star sexual aura.
Jimmy Page could skill as a producer, and the other sides of magnitude without changing the time they were together the band members. And the life that actually brought as an archetypal rock and roll bad boys wild life led by the intensity of the Rolling Stones, if not the length. Both bands are perfect examples of the artistic level of what I call FORM = content, which in this case means that these two rock and roll bands personified the rock and roll life.
In conclusion, the four categories mentioned are not sufficient to fully qualify Led Zeppelin for my not so humble action. There will never be another group of rock and roll approach to stratospheric heights that the music of Led Zep reached. The Recording Industry Association of America, with accurate statistics, lists of Led Zeppelin as the third best-selling act of the music / artist in history. The Beatles are first, with 166.5 million units sold in the U.S. alone, Elvis is second with 117.5 million, and Led Zep is third with 106 million dollars. I think it's very important that these statistics are becoming geometrically times the number of albums sold during their lifetime performance. What happened and is happening is that young people today are found in large numbers because they reach sexual maturity and recognize and communicate with the music more powerful example that sexual energy. They buy their CD's, shirts, posters and other memorabilia. And frankly, I'm delighted.
Jimmy's riffs differ from each other in every song, and also from song to song. His guitar playing of lead can be difficult and sexy, he can be delicate and beautiful, and it may be technically brilliant, all in the same song.
